Ericeira surf and Ear Infection エリセイラと中耳炎 – My Endless Summer 俺のエンドレスサマー

As soon as I arrive Ericeira, I started looking for hostel to stay as I decided to stay in hostel in Ericeira instead of sleeping in car because car break-in robbery often happens near surf point there.

I stayed at Solo surfer hostel and it was almost empty that time. Hostel manager said after world junior it will be dead like this. Manager will go home after 6PM. Therefore, in some nights, I was the only person in the whole building, felt lonely sometimes and it was even worse in the nights of storm.

エリセイラに着いて、すぐに泊まるホステルを探しました。ここでは車中泊しません。というものも車上荒らしがこのポルトガルでは非常に多いので荷物を全ていれた状態でサーフィンするのは危険と判断しました。

ビーチ沿いのソロサーファーホステルに宿泊することにしました。どうやらワールドジュニアの後は閑散としており、管理人も夜にはいなくなる。こんな大きなホステルで何泊かは自分が一人っきりということも。かなり寂しい。。というか嵐の夜は心ぼそかった。ボッチサーファーホステルって…名前のまんますぎるわ。

First 4,5 days I got lucky with swells and weather, I was able to have fun surf sessions.

Especially Ribiera Dilha was one of the best designed surf point among I surfed. Paved parking lot, brand new wood deck,spacious shower, toilet, surf shop and restaurant/cafe.

But day 6, the wave got massive with onshore wind at Ribiera Dilha. I saw many surfers could not even make it to the peak and washed closed to the rocks on the left.

After checking waves for 10 minutes, I decided to go in.

最初の４、５日は幸運にも天気もスウェルも良くファンサーフすることができました。

リビエラディルハは特にこれまで訪れたビーチの中でも最も施設が充実して、良くデザインされていました。舗装されたパーキングに、真新しいウッドデッキ、シャワー、トイレも広々としていてサーフショップとカフェ、レストランもある。

ところがその6日目　リビエラディルハでは波はとてつもなく大きくなり、オンショアも加わってハードコンディション。　たくさんのサーファーがパドルアウトすらままならず、左の岩の部分に流されているのを見ました。　その様子をみて１０分以上波チェックをした後、入水することを決めました。

That day, waves are even bigger than this world junior condition with onshore, It was difficult condition. この日のコンディションよりもさらに大きくてメッシーなコンディションだった

There were only 5 to 10 people in the water. Some of them surf just 30 minutes and get out of the water as it is such a difficult condition.

I paddled out with maximum paddle power and made it to the lineup and managed to catch the set from the peak but wave closed-out, and after that, there was 3 another sets came in and I got washed closed to the rocks right after 3rd set. I assume that I traveled more than 200 meter with just 3 sets and almost got smashed to the rocks. Locals watching me, whitsled and screamed to me “Don’t paddle to the peak(lineup), paddle left!” .

ラインナップにはだいたい５人から多い時で１０人程度しか入っていませんでした。ほとんどの人が入ってもハードコンディションだったので３０分程度であがっていました。

足がすくむようなサイズの波をかわしながら全力でパドルアウトしてなんとかラインナップに到着、そして気合いでデカセットを捕まえて乗って行くもクローズアウトしてワイプアウト、そしてその後デカセットが立て続けに３発、あっという間にインサイドの岩のすぐそばまで流され、叩きつけられそうに。たった３発のセットで２００メートル以上流されたことになる。

After dodging deadly several shore break, I was able to get back to the remote beach behind the rocks, people called it emergency beach.

I knew I should not paddle toward the lineup, but I never thought I could be washed to the rocks that fast.

After resting 30 minutes, I paddled back to the peak and caught another set and had a good run. Then I called it a day as I found it bit dangerous condition.

On that night, 1 in the morning, I woke up for severe pain in my both ears and got a fever too in a big hostel by myself. So I decided to stay out of the water and rest for 3 days or so to see how it goes. I checked the internet and this symptom seems ear infection and it usually heals in 3 days without specific medication.

くらったら岩に叩きつけられて粉々になってしまいそうなショアブレイクをなんとか凌ぎながら、左奥（岩のさらに奥）の緊急避難ビーチ的な部分に戻ることができた。ピークに向かってパドルしてはいけないというのを波チェックの時に理解していたつもりだったが、まさかあれだけの距離をこんなにも早く流されるとは思っていなかったためパニクることになった。

３０分ほどそこで休憩した後、もう一度トライ。ピークに戻りもう一本セットを捕まえて岸まで乗っていってそれでその日はお終い。これ以上はいってるのは危険だと判断。

そして一難さったと思ったらまたもう一難、その日の夜中１時に突然両耳に強い痛みを覚えて誰もいないホステルで目が覚めた。熱もある。インターネットで調べたところ症状が中耳炎のようで、とりあえず３日間ほどサーフィンを休んで様子を見ることに。

After taking some tylenol-like medicines I brought from Japan, Fever was solved in 2 days but ear infection problem persisted.

It felt like something got stuck in the middle of the ear, and I could not hear well.

After 5 days, I decided to go to Hospital to see a doctor in Lisbon so I called up my insurance company and had them make an appointment.

Doctor gave me antibiotic pills and said it is better not clean the ear yet as there are still inflammation. Lets wait and see another week or so.

After that, I got quite bored in Ericeira as I could not surf nor even hear well. I ended up using kindle to download Japanese comics “Shinjyuku swan” for a whole story.

I did a bit sightseeing in Lisbon and Nazare to kill time as well.

日本から持ってきたバファリンを飲んで安静にしていたら、熱は２日で収まった。けれど耳の中耳炎のような症状はその後も続いた。耳の中に何かがはまっているような感覚で、よく聞こえない。

５日間しても治らないので、保険会社に電話してリスボンの病院に行くことに。医師は抗生物質のピルを出してくれた。炎症がまだあるので耳のクリーニングはまだしないほうが良い、しばらく、１週間かそれ以上、様子をみようということだった。

その後、エリセイラではかなり暇で退屈してしまった。サーフィンもできないし、耳も聞こえない。Kindleアプリで電子書籍漫画、新宿スワンを全巻購入したりしてしまった

I tried Air BnB for the first time as well. It was quite good for pricing and fun to know local too. My host, Luis was local surfer and advise me where to surf and what to see.Though, I could not surf because of ear infection.

その後はじめてAir BnBを試してもみた。コスパとしては大満足だし、ローカルと知り合いになれるのが楽しかった。ルイスはローカルサーファーでどこでサーフィンすれば良いか教えてくれた。まぁサーフィンは今の自分はできないのだが。

I stayed in this room for 2 weeks ここに２週間ほどステイしました。

I was originally thinking about going to Canary Island after Portugal but This ear infection kept bugging me so I decided to visit TK in London and Iceland.

Next, I will visit TK in London and off to Iceland.

最初はポルトガル後は直接カナリア諸島に行こうと考えていたのですが、中耳炎があまりにしつこく治らないので、ロンドンにいるTKを訪ねてその後アイスランドに行こうと決意。

次回はTKロンドンとアイスランド。

Probably the biggest quick silver shop I’ve ever been to. It’s got cafe/restaurant inside and skatepark in the backyard too. 多分今までいったクイックシルバーで一番大きい、中にはカフェ、レストラン、外には大きなスケートパークがある。
